Runway 7‑25 Rehabilitation Project
The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority is pleased to advance a critical airfield improvement project at Orlando Executive Airport (ORL), ensuring the continued efficiency, safety, and reliability of Central Florida’s premier reliever airport for Orlando International Airport (MCO). As a keystone infrastructure investment, the Runway 7‑25 Rehabilitation Project plays a vital role in sustaining ORL’s operational excellence and long‑term service to the region’s general aviation, corporate, and public safety aviation users.
The project includes the full rehabilitation of Runway 7‑25, which was last repaved in 2003. Work consists of milling and overlaying the existing asphalt pavement, along with comprehensive upgrades to runway edge lighting, airfield signage, and pavement markings. Rehabilitation efforts also extend into the Runway Safety Area of intersecting Runway 13‑31, further strengthening overall airfield safety and durability.
This is a complex, carefully phased construction effort that requires close coordination to maintain continuous access to the airport throughout the project. Strategic use of Runway 13‑31 during various phases allows ORL to remain operational and accessible to its tenants and users while construction progresses on Runway 7‑25. This approach minimizes operational disruptions while maintaining a high standard of safety and service.
To further enhance airfield operations, the project incorporates airfield geometry modifications designed to meet current FAA design standards and permanently mitigate several FAA‑designated “hot spots.” These improvements will enhance pilot situational awareness, reduce the potential for runway incursions, and elevate overall operational safety. Upon completion, the Runway 7‑25 Rehabilitation Project will reinforce ORL’s role as a dependable reliever airport and position the facility to meet the evolving needs of the aviation community for decades to come.
